Hurricane Idalia now a Cat 4 storm: Here are the latest impacts expected along coast and in Upstate (2024)

Hurricane Idalia expected to be Cat 4: Latest spaghetti models, track for South Carolina, Georgia coasts

IT IS FIVE 19IN HURRICANE IDALIA BECAME A CAT. FOUR HURRICANE OVER THE PAST 30, 40 MINUTES HERE. SO HERE WE GO. STILL PROJECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL REALLY WITHIN THE ANYTIME BETWEEN, SAY, 6:00, 7 OR 8:00 THIS MORNING. SO WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS, AT MOST, WE WILL SEE THIS MAKING LANDFALL STILL BRINGING QUITE A BIT OF WIND AND RAIN TO THE COAST OF FLORIDA. AND LOOK AT THIS, EVEN EXTENDING INTO PARTS OF SOUTH CAROLINA EVEN AT THIS HOUR. NOW, THE REMNANTS WILL BE MOVING ACROSS THE COAST OF GEORGIA AND SOUTH CAROLINA HEADING INTO TONIGHT, WHICH MEANS THIS AFTERNOON, WE’RE GOING TO FEEL THAT WIND BEGIN TO PICK UP AND THE RAINFALL, IF YOU LIVE ANYWHERE FROM THE MIDLANDS TO THE LOW COUNTRY ESPECIALLY, AND THEN THIS MOVES BACK INTO THE ATLANTIC OCEAN. THANKFULLY AWAY FROM LAND AND AWAY FROM US. BUT HERE WE GO. WE’VE GOT TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS IN EFFECT FROM NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA, ALL THE WAY DOWN INTO PARTS OF GEORGIA AS WELL. THAT MEANS THOSE WIND GUSTS, 40, 50, 60MPH THIS AFTERNOON, 70, POSSIBLY 75 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS HEADING INTO TONIGHT AS THAT GETS A LITTLE BIT CLOSER. AND THEN NOTICE THIS GREEN. THESE ARE FLOOD WATCHES IN EFFECT AS WELL, ALL THE WAY TO THE UPSTATE. SO SOME OF OUR EASTERN COUNTIES INCLUDED IN THIS FLOOD WATCH AS WE WILL BE ON THE BACK SIDE. SO A NON SEVERE SIDE OF IDALIA, WHICH IS GOOD, BUT WE ARE STILL GOING TO GET ABOUT HALF AN INCH TO AN INCH OF RAIN IN THESE AREAS. BUT IT’S GOING TO BE A LOT OF RAIN IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. SO WE MAY SEE A LITTLE BIT OF LOCALIZED FLOODING. BY THE WAY, I DO THINK WE’RE GOING TO SEE SOME RAINFALL IN GREENVILLE, POSSIBLY AS FAR WEST AS EVEN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. BUT THE BULK OR THE BRUNT WILL BE SOME OF OUR EASTERN COUNTIES. I’LL SHOW YOU THAT MORE IN JUST A SECOND. WE’VE ALSO GOT A SOLID COLD FRONT, BY THE WAY. THIS COLD FRONT HAS BEEN THE CULPRIT FOR OF THE MUCH NEEDED RAINFALL THAT WE HAVE BEEN GETTING SINCE SUNDAY. IT’S STALLED OUT. IT’S REALLY ENHANCING THE MOISTURE. AND WE’VE BEEN GETTING SOME OF THOSE DOWNPOURS ISOLATED, BUT THEY’VE BEEN AROUND TODAY IS THE DAY THAT FRONT FINALLY PUSHES THROUGH AND AS IT DOES, IT’S GOING TO PUSH THAT HURRICANE AWAY FROM US. SO GOOD TIMING, BUT WE’RE STILL GOING TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF RAIN OUT OF THIS ACROSS THE UPSTATE. AS WE TAKE A LOOK AT THIS MORNING. THERE WE GO, MAKING LANDFALL VERY QUICKLY, THEN HEADING ALONG OUR COAST. THIS IS 8:00 TONIGHT. SO ANYTIME BETWEEN SIX, SEVEN AND EIGHT, NINE, REALLY DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU LIVE ALONG THE COAST, YOU WILL BE IMPACTED BY THE WIND AND THE RAIN. AGAIN, IT STARTS THIS AFTERNOON. BUT HERE COMES THE CORE. TONIGHT. AND THEN AS WE GO INTO EARLY THURSDAY MORNING, IT’S GOING TO RIDE ALONG UP INTO NORTH CAROLINA AND THEN EVENTUALLY BACK OUT IN THE ATLANTIC ON THE BACK SIDE OF THAT, ON AREA BEACHES. IT’S STILL GOING TO BE VERY WINDY AND OUR SEAS ARE STILL GOING TO BE PRETTY HIGH. SO IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO HEAD TO THE COAST BECAUSE WE ARE KICKING OFF A HOLIDAY WEEKEND SOON, JUST KNOW YOU’RE GOING TO BE DEALING WITH SOME WIND AT THE VERY LEAST ON THURSDAY. TONIGHT, THAT’S WHEN OUR WIND GUSTS PICK UP 25 TO 30MPH. AGAIN, NOT SEVERE, BUT WHEN IT’S WHEN IT STARTS TO REACH CLOSER TO 30, THAT’S WHEN YOU KIND OF HEAR THESE WINDS OUTSIDE YOUR HOME. AND IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING THAT ISN’T KIND OF BOLTED DOWN, A LOT OF FOLKS HAVE YARD ART AROUND HERE. YOU MIGHT NEED TO BOLT THAT DOWN OR BRING IT INDOORS FOR A NIGHT HEADING INTO TOMORROW. WE’VE GOT PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES, A LITTLE BREEZY INITIALLY, BUT IT’S GOING TO BE A BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL DAY. AND WE’RE GOING TO NEED SOME DRY TIME AFTER THIS RAINFALL. HERE’S THE PROJECTED RAINFALL AGAIN, ABOUT HALF AN INCH TO AN INCH SEEMS REASONABLE, BUT SOME OF THAT RAIN WILL BE SPREADING WEST INTO GREENVILLE PARTS OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. BUT A BIT MORE ISOLATED THAN THOSE EASTERN COUNTIES CURRENTLY UNDER A FLOOD WATCH. TEMPERATURES ARE NOT GOING TO BE TOO HOT TODAY. WE’VE GOT THAT RAINFALL. WE’VE GOT THE CLOUD COVERAGE KEEPING US A LITTLE BIT ON THE COOLER SIDE. THE COLD FRONT DOES PASS THROUGH TODAY, SO THAT MEANS COOLER AND LESS HUMID STARTING TOMORROW AND THEN HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND. IT WILL BE THE CALM AFTER THE STORM. NEAR PERFECT SUMMER WEATHER. IT’S GOING TO BE HOT, BUT IT’S NOT GOING TO BE SWELTERING HEAT OR HUMIDITY. AND WE’RE GOI
