And we're already up to the second named storm of the year, with 2 more developing. Gonna be a busy season, looks like. Hopefully it will bring us some good rains in the middle of the hottest parts of the year.

Hop-ster, you better get on board with this again.

Yeah it’s that time of year. Living near the coast for all these years I’ve seen my share. I’ve always had a generator or two. For whatever reason I decided I’d get a Tri fuel generator. Headed to Home Depot to pick it up this morning. I have natural gas for my pool heater, easy hook up. If the lights are out it’s not always easy to keep a generator in gasoline. So I figured having a natural gas generator wasn’t a bad idea. Hope I never have to use it.

With that said, in our current house we seldom loose power. We got dumped on with Harvey, 52-54 inches or something like that and lights never flickered. Next time around may not be all that lucky.

If we were going to live here the rest of my life I’d put in a whole house generator. Hope to sell in a few months and build at the lake/Rayburn or escape to Oklahoma lol!

In some cases it’s mandatory evacuation, seldom with a bad storm you have the option to ride it out. You empty the fridge and freezer and get the heck out. It’s no fun to come back to a hot house and no power. A generator and a window unit is not a bad plan.

I plan to put soft start kits on both my AC units, 2.5 and 3.5 ton units. Pretty sure with soft start kits I can run one of my AC units. I have a mechanical lockout for my panel and generator receptacle need to install.

You loose a lot of conversion with natural gas, 13,500/11,500 watts with gasoline. With natural gas the continuous drops to 8,500 watts for the generator I bought.

I hope I never have to ran a generator but I hope to be prepared.

Thanks, Billy

We are due for one here on the Texas coast. The mandatory evacuations are insane crazy. Hurricane Ike was not mandatory but brother in law loaded his family up and headed to San Antonio for Hurricane Ike. He ended up stuck with his family on I10 in a parking lot between Houston and San Antonio. If I recall he ran through two tanks of gas getting to San Antonio. I want to say it took him 36 hours to get to San Antonio. We road out Ike, fired the generator up and drank beer.

Boarding up is no fun either. I have 4 windows on the side of our current house I don’t have a ladder tall enough to get too. I have a window in my attic over my garage that’s really going to be hard to get too. At least when we built this house they gave us Hurricane boards. House I had in Corpus I had to cut mine at the last minuet, couldn’t get shook loose for work.

Now I get to figure out how to get this heavy new generator out of my 3/4 truck with 34’s!!

Thanks, Billy

From what I’ve read on it, the high pressure over us will push it towards Mexico. I understand Pat not wanting it, but when we have multiple lakes on the verge of drying up, we need something as a solution.
